Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Shirodhara is a deeply calming Ayurvedic therapy where a steady stream of warm, herbalized oil is gently poured onto the center of the forehead (the “third eye” area). It helps quiet the mind, soothe the nervous system, and restore inner balance.
Shirodhara is known to:
  • Reduce stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue
  • Improve sleep and treat insomnia
  • Support emotional balance and mental clarity
  • Alleviate headaches, migraines, and tension
  • Nourish the nervous system and promote deep relaxation
At Ayurvedamrut, your session begins with a calming head, neck, or scalp massage using dosha-specific oils. Then, a continuous stream of warm herbal oil is gently poured over the forehead using a traditional copper vessel. The flow is rhythmic and meditative, creating a blissful experience.
We use organic, medicated oils such as Brahmi, Ksheerabala, or special blends prepared in-house. The oil is selected based on your dosha and specific concerns such as insomnia, anxiety, or burnout.
A typical Shirodhara session lasts 45–60 minutes. We also offer extended wellness packages where Shirodhara is combined with Abhyanga or Marma therapy for enhanced results.
A brief intake or full consultation is recommended before your first Shirodhara session. This allows us to personalize your treatment and choose the right oil blend for your needs.

Shirodhara is especially helpful for:

  • Individuals with high stress or overactive minds.
  • Those experiencing insomnia or disturbed sleep.

  • People dealing with hormonal imbalance, burnout, or emotional stress.

  • Students and professionals seeking mental clarity and focus.

  • Anyone needing deep rest and nervous system rejuvenation.

You will likely feel deeply relaxed, mentally clear, and emotionally centered. Many clients report improved sleep, reduced anxiety, and a sense of inner peace that lasts for days. It’s ideal to rest or avoid stimulation after the session.

Depending on your condition:

  • For deep relaxation or occasional stress – once every few weeks.

  • For chronic issues like insomnia or anxiety – a series of 3 to 7 sessions is recommended.
  • As part of Panchakarma or seasonal rejuvenation – as advised by our Ayurvedic practitioner.

Shirodhara is generally safe and suitable for most people. However, it is not recommended during fever, acute illness, or head injuries. Your practitioner will assess suitability during your consultation.
You’ll likely feel deeply relaxed, grounded, and mentally refreshed. It’s best to rest, avoid screen time or intense activity, and let the effects integrate. You may leave the nourishing oil on your head for a few hours or use warm water and a gentle shampoo to wash it off.
